Cosmetic dentistry has made great advances, and nowadays, an average dentist in Essex can fit his patients with dental veneers. Dental veneers are also known as teeth veneers, and are an important component of cosmetic dentistry. Dental veneers are wafer thin shells or laminates that have got the natural colour of teeth. These can be made from porcelain, composite bonding material or ceramic. These are available in most dentists’ clinics in Essex.
Teeth veneers are used to improve the appearance of the teeth by being cemented to the front surface of the teeth. They are the dental equivalent of false fingernails. However, veneers play an important protective function too, by covering the surface of damaged teeth, thereby preventing further damage from occurring. Porcelain veneers are by far the most popular type of dental veneers, and are preferred by most dentists in Essex. There are a number of reasons why this is so:
• Porcelain veneers are easy to clean, and do not stain easily.
• They have a natural tooth colour that makes them difficult to detect. In fact, even the wearer himself often forgets he has them.
• Porcelain veneers are long lasting. As long as the user observes good oral hygiene, they will last for a long time.
Teeth veneers are used in a number of cases. Some of these are:
• Chipped and damaged teeth: Teeth can get chipped after a traumatic event, such as an accident. Teeth that are weakened by poor dental hygiene and excessive consumption of sugar are also prime candidates for chipping. Patients who suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding) can weaken their teeth to such an extent that they begin to chip.
• Stained Teeth: Teeth can get stained by smoking, drinking tea or coffee, taking certain medications and so on. These stains can become so ingrained, that a regular teeth whitening or bleaching procedure is unable to remove them. Teeth veneers are ideal for use in such cases.
• Crooked Teeth: Dental veneers are sometimes used on crooked teeth to give the impression of less crookedness. They are used in cases where the teeth are not too crooked.
• Teeth with Gaps: Large gaps between the teeth can spoil even the best of smiles. Dental veneers are very effective in eliminating these gaps, and improving your smile.
Before dental veneers can be fitted onto your teeth, a dentist will first reshape the teeth to make sure that the veneers will fit perfectly. This chipping-away also ensures the veneer looks as natural as possible on your teeth. A teeth mould is used for replicating your teeth impression, and creating a custom-fit veneer for you.
