Know Why Porcelain Veneers Are the Best

Dental veneers are nothing but a wafer thin restorative material, which is placed over the surface of the teeth to improve teeth appearance or to protect the damaged teeth. There are two available varieties of dental veneer. One is porcelain veneers and the other is composite resin material.

Why porcelain is better?

1) Porcelain is crafted out of a type of ceramic that has close resemblance to natural tooth color.

2) It resists stains, so if you are an avid smoker or you have coffee, porcelain is the best choice.

3) Porcelain is durable and in some cases lasts for close to about 15 years.

4) It is easy and adjustable material, so a patient only needs to have 1 ½ hour appointment.

5) It requires less of maintenance, which means the visits for follow up treatment, will also be less as well.

Porcelain material is apt for masking worn down, stained and chipped teeth due to excessive consumption of fizzy drinks or grinding. It is also able to beautify crooked teeth and gaps, in order for it look impressive and flawless. There is no need to go through the painstakingly long dental operations. Porcelain can correct tooth gaps and stains permanently.

How it is done?

Porcelain is roughly half a millimeter thick and is applied over the surface of the teeth. The process is simple but it requires two to three trips for both consultation and the application. Initially, during the first meeting, the patient as well the dentist discuss about what sort of result they are trying to achieve and whether or not it will be appropriate for the patient’s appearance.

Definitely there are limitations for different patients and primary diagnosis need to be done to determine the impressions of the mouth and the teeth. X-rays are taken. Again, dentist and the patient decide whether or not local anesthesia is required. The dentists also remove about half a millimeter of the enamel from the surface of the teeth and prepare a model of the teeth for which the porcelain veneers need to be constructed.

Based on the model, it takes about one to two weeks to construct a veneer. If the patient is uncomfortable in the way their teeth appear they can go for temporary dental veneers during the two or three weeks of preparation time that would involve some additional cost.

Porcelain veneers are permanently cemented to the tooth. However, fit color and the look has to be suitable for the patient and to achieve such level of form, adjustments are done. Color adjustment is done with the help of special cement. The fit adjustment is done by means of repeated trimming. The teeth are also cleaned etched and polished so that the veneer can adjust easily. The cement which is used for bonding hardens quickly and effectively once the chemicals are activated through a special light.
