Types of Denture
- Cosmetic Denture – This can be made from acrylic or chrome replacing teeth comfortably with cosmetics in mind.
- Partial Denture – A partial denture is made when you have some remaining teeth. A partial denture can be made from acrylic or chrome.
- Full Denture – Full dentures replace all missing teeth in the arch and are generally made from acrylic.
- Chrome dentures are very strong, less bulky alternatives to acrylic dentures.
- Dental Implant retained dentures – If you have very loose dentures because there is not enough bone or gum retaining the dentures then dental implant supported dentures are perfect for you!
- Immediate Dentures – Immediate dentures provide teeth immediately after tooth extraction so you will never be without teeth. Immediate dentures are usually transitional while the gums are healing after tooth extraction.
What Type of Denture is Suitable for Me?
This depends on what you wish to achieve and how many teeth are missing. If you are missing a few teeth then partial dentures are the best option. Partial dentures can either be cobalt chrome or resin acrylic.
If you are missing all teeth then full dentures are best as they replace all teeth. Full dentures are usually made of acrylic resin. Full dentures can be supported by dental implants for maximum retention and stability.
How long do Dentures Last?
Partial dentures life depends on the health of the teeth and gums supporting them. On average partial dentures can give many years of life. Full dentures on average may last you longer as they do not rely on the health of you teeth but more on gum health.
Advantages of Dentures
Dentures can have teeth added to them, they can be made very quickly and provide you teeth immediately after extraction. Dentures are relatively cheaper to have compared to dental implants and dental bridges.
